Building A Bearcat Champion Racer

October 19, 2015 · in Aviation · · 15 · 1.9K

I started out to build the in the Glenview scheme, but as you can see, there was a change in plans along the way. I know racing aircraft is not everyone's cup of tea, but when one is looking for something colorful in a scheme, one can usually find it in the racing category. One might wonder how I ended up doing a white scheme. The kit was a 48th scale -2 Bearcat, and I decided early in the construction to switch to an early Bearcat when I ran across a set of decals from Red Pegasus depicting the 1964 Champion. The aircraft was basically a stock Bearcat so I did not have to do any surgery other than remove the guns and gun bumps, and cut the wings for the folded tips. I did add a set of resin wheels and tires from BarracudaCast to get the proper tire tread. I used Tamiya's White for the finish.

  2. Nice job, Jack...I like it. What is that you're using for a jig in that first pic? Is it something you made or what?

  4. Beautiful job, Jack. Something about that scheme that makes me thirsty...

  5. Racers usually look good, Jack, and this one is no exception, really neat.

  6. A beautiful build! The Bearcat is one of my favourite propcats. As for racing planes the ultimate must have been Rare Bear. Well done indeed!

  7. Jack, what a nice clean build! I like racing planes, and I'd love to see this whipping around the pylons. She's a beaut!
