F6F-5 Hellcat Eduard 1/48

October 21, 2015 · in Aviation · · 20 · 2.7K

I’m calling it done: only thing left is to finish is the antennae mast(paint it). I made the straps for the drop tank and the mounts, replaced the gun barrels with needles and added wiring to HVARs( pigtails?). I’m not completely satisfied with the finish, wanted to do it a bit weathered on the top so it’s not glossy, but i might add a glossy coat on it if I feel like it in the future (but probably won`t 🙂 )

  1. Hello Matija...Very nicely done Eduard Hellcat. Your weathering technique is quite realistic and a fine choice of well applied markings. Looks great.

  2. Outstanding work - I think your finish looks just right the way it is!

  3. Nice one Matija, I like the overall impression, especially the weathering!

  4. It looks awesome! I like your weathering very much. Well done indeed!

  5. Good variation on the panels, as others have noted. You've caught the look of a service aircraft very nicely.

  6. Ditto the comments above - great finish and weathering, and a nice looking finished model! Well done.

  7. I'll echo all of the above...and since nobody else mentioned it, I really like that exhaust staining - it looks perfect with that color.

  8. Superb weathering on a well used USN hellcat late war.
I will be saving images of your kit to help me weather mine!
    Fabulous job- congratulations!

  9. hello Matija, i have its 1/72 "little brother" in my stash, good to see yours before i start mine. good work, i really like it and gives me lots of ideas and inspiration for my future build, especially about weathering, thanks for sharing.

  10. Matija, I'm with Craig, I love that exhaust staining. Could you share how you did that? Best I've seen on a naval aircraft model IMHO, an essential on GSB aircraft that are looking used.
It looks the part, great work!

    • Not much of a secret... I used Tamiya smoke for the first, slightly bigger stain then went with Gunze dark earth in a slightly irregular pattern and finished it off

  11. Matija. I wouldn't worry too much about the shine. I've seen a lot of photos that show a wide verity of shine to the finish. Depending especially when / where. Your build here looks great, exhaust stain looks wonderful.
One question, what did you use for the drop tank straps?

  12. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Beautiful work on that HELLCAT, nice weathering and very good work on that exhaust stain, that color for it look good.

  14. Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated

  15. Very nice work on this model. I particularly like the exhaust staining. The overall weathering is very realistic for its restraint

  16. I will definitely echo what has been already said - I really like the way the exhaust came out. Overall one-color jobs are hard to get a good look on, but you NAILED it! Great work!

  17. Excellent result, great looking Cat !
