Work In Progress-Nichimo 1:48 scale, Ki-45, “Toryu”

February 28, 2016 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.1K

Here's another kit that's moving along towards completion. Again, a few update photos. Kit itself is going together well. All the fun has been getting all these interior detail sets to fit. Ugh. However they look okay after the fact.

This one will get it's final gloss coat tonight, sealing the decals. Tomorrow the flat, and on to the "fidley bits" here too. I get to scratch build the retraction system out of evergreen plastic rod and/or stretched sprue! Yay. I'll post pictures folks!

Thanks again, and have a great evening!

Regards,
Freddie from LI

  1. Beautiful rising bird, nicely coming together

  2. Looks as though your off to a great start - again. We'll be watchin' for the "done deal".

  3. Looking good, on the home straight now.

  4. Coming on nicely, Freddie. You might want to consider starting a WIP thread in future to keep us up-to-date on the progress of your builds. Check it out in Groups>WIP>Aircraft.

    Thanks for posting.

  5. Looking forward to the finished product...

  6. Freddie, I've got one of these in my collection of the unbuilt. What interior details sets are available, or that you'd recommend?
    What's your overall/topsides color?

    • Hi Bernard

I used the Lone Star Models resin detail sets for both the cockpit and wheel wells. I am not sure they are still in production, but if you can get a hold of Mike West, (The man behind the resin at Lone Star) he can give a better answer about availability
The color I chose, was actually a color used on B-52's, because it supposedly is a close match to the green used on these aircraft. The FS number is 34096, Dark Green (B-52). It is made by Model Master
The Lone Star sets, I found to be a handful, so be warned.

  7. Nuthin' wrong with ol' Nichi-mo. Are these the Lone Star interior sets you were trying to sell me? Looks like they were put to good use.

    • I think I might have tried to sell these at some point, but the kit NEEDS them so I bit the bullet. All I can say is they were a royal pain in the a*s. Be glad you didn't buy them! But they do look okay once they are in.

The kit itself, is actually pretty good. It fits terrific, and lines up without to much of a hassle. Only knock, is that the detail in the pit and wheel wells is very little or none, hence the Lone Star sets. I think they are the only game in town.
