Dragon 1-144 scale F-16A Fighting Falcon

April 14, 2016 · in Aviation · · 6 · 2.5K

This one has been languishing on my shelf for nearly 5 years, and I finally decided to finish it. Old school. All finishing has been applied with a paintbrush. The colours are all Testors Model Master Enamels, with a brushed gloss coat of Future, decals, more Future, Mig wash, and then brushed on Dullcote. The cockpit detail was non-existent, so I just coated the inside of the canopy with black and glued it on. Unfortunately, the decals were out of register, and the main landing gear was molded out of true, so it has a bit of a lean. According to my wife, this one is actually “cute”. The cutting mat the model is sitting on is marked in one inch squares, so the true (lack of) size is very apparent.

  1. Looks pretty darn good, George...lack of details or not...(I've considered doing some of MY canopies like that and THEY'RE not 1/144th scale). 🙁

  2. Nice build. If smaller than a 737 in 1/144 I won't even attempt it with my creaky fingers.

    • I've only built two 1/144th scale aircraft: an F-4 Phantom ('cause I thought it was cute) and a B-52 (which is pretty good size - even in THAT scale). 'Course, that doesn't include 1/350th stuff on my limited "floaty things" attempts. Talk about small. 🙁

  3. Very neat work in that scale, and I think you've got away with that canopy dodge!

  4. Looks nice! I get a lot of grief from the guys in my club for sticking with 72 scale, and not sure I ever want to tackle going down to 144!

  5. Excellent work in that scale !
