Italeri 1/48th westland Wessex HU.5

April 4, 2016 · in Aviation · · 12 · 2.3K

Another completed, this time an HU.5 Rescue version from 771 Squadron based at Culdrose. This was my second model of this version as my first, a Commando version from 707 Squadron from Yeovilton met an untimely demise after my wife was a little too enthusiastic with her cleaning!

The Italeri kit is a joy to make, just let down a bit by some inaccurate decals. The Ace of Spades Squadron marking is all the wrong font, as are several of the stencil markings. I used some after market markings for 707 Squadron and with those left over may well do a Green Parrot Admirals Barge from 781 Squadron one day.

Still got the HAS.1 to build yet first though.

  5. That's a real eye-catcher. One small photography tip: try some shots with your camera at scale eye level.

  6. Another great Wessex, and from RNAS Culdrose, I remember going to their airshows in the 1960s, great days out.

  7. I remember 70's air shows at Yeovilton and the 60's were a great period for many British aircraft I fondly remember
