Tamiya 1/12 Yamaha XV1600 RoadStar

May 3, 2016 · in Automotive · · 7 · 3.5K

This is the build review for the XV1600 RoadStar. This is the model that I received for winning the Model of the Month award! I thought it would be appropriate to give a decent review of the kit as construction rolls along.

As expected with most Tamiya kits the instructions, decals and parts trees were in clear and flash free condition.

Engine assembly went smoothly and there were no issues. I primed everything except the fenders and tank in flat black.

Engine mounted into the frame with little difficulty. However, I would suggest to anyone building this kit to attach the spark plug wires BEFORE placing the engine into the frame. I had a heck of a time getting them in after the engine was in place.

Body parts have been painted in an Ice Blue scheme.

Rear wheel assembly has been attached in this photo. Fender will be added after paint and decals have dried.

I am always impressed by the details that Tamiya has on their engines. They always seem to come out looking great!

Here is the completed model.

And a couple of photos of the completed model with the box art as a background.

I wish to thank, once again, the judges of the Model of the Month contest for choosing my POW/MIA bike as the winner. This is the model that I picked out as a prize and I am quite happy with the end results. This will be included in the my entries in an upcoming model contest here in Virginia Beach.

  1. Gonna be another stunner, Harry...nice review. Look forward to the finished bike. Also would like to see a pic of your display(s).

    • There's a show this Saturday so I'll be getting some photos before, during and after the show. I'll be looking to get a decent base for the Harley/Sidecar rig over the next couple of days...Not sure yet if this one will be ready by Saturday or not...

  2. Really nice workmanship here, Harry.
