1/72 Hasegawa F-4E Phantom II

August 14, 2016 · in Aviation · · 14 · 3.1K

Dear All ,Great to see the wonderful Phantoms posted - congrats and thank you to all . The Rockin Rhino is still under construction as you will see ( will post in WIP shortly), however in an attempt to contribute just a little to this Phabulous Phestival of Phantoms - here is the archaic F-4E in City of Homestead colours. I picked the kit up for a song a Telford last year intending to use it as a testbed for an attempt at a SEA scheme and the Phantoms infamous afterburner metalwork.

The kit and I have fought each other most of the way and it has been on and off the shelf of doom more times than I can say.It is ancient and shows it, and I have contributed a few of my very own mistakes. However it is finished so here it is.

A big thank you to Greg Kittinger for organising this GB. Thanks. Dave

  1. Indeed an ancient kit , but one Phine Phantom anyway.

  2. Looks like it lost the "fight" David, because it appears you tamed the brute. Nice work.

  3. Looks good David, I have had the privilege of building this kit, it can be tough (I remember breaking both rear stabilizers and a lot of the small pieces on the landing gear). But over all it came out well. yours looks great !

    • Thank Terry - the older kits have different challenges to modern kits so enjoyed trying to overcome those - and to see how they match up to modern kits

  4. Well done David, I have one of these in the stash, one day maybe !

  5. Looks great Dave! Metal work and SEA scheme both convincing. I've got this kit waiting for an IAF build - any "what to watch out for" items flag me with a PM!

  6. That's pretty good for something that came of the shelf of doom! You've achieved a really nice finish on it.

  7. I've always loved the F4 from an early age, as they were both the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force's main fighter aircraft when i was growing up. Sadly, the RAF and RN camo schemes were never as nice (IMO) as the far east asia camouflage of the wild weasel squadrons.

Great job mate, always love seeing a Phantom done well
