F-4 Phantom, Group BuildEduard 1/48

August 13, 2016 · in Aviation · · 15 · 3.2K

I almost forgot to post these today...This is the 'Rockin' Rhino" kit. Of the 4 color/decor schemes, I chose "VX-4 Th Evaluators, NAS Point Mugu, 1972" not only because it is cool looking but is the simplest too, which is a good thing considering this is a fairly complex kit to assemble. It is painted with a hairbrush, using 50/50 thinned Model Master gloss black.

Thanks to all for sharing their wonderful builds, too many for me to complement everyone on.

  1. Beautiful work, Ralph...those seats are gorgeous.

  2. Yes lovely model Ralph.

  3. Vandy 1, saw her before VX-4 transitioned to the F-14A in the mid 80's while stationed in Pt Mugu. You did a great job on her. Looked sinister in glossy black in reality, you captured it in miniature. Thanks for sharing.

  4. That is a cool scheme. I have always liked those Vandy schemes

  5. Nice! Did you mean hand brushed?

  6. Hi Ralph,
Striking color scheme and lots of detail in the office.

  7. Like this all-black Phantom, good job!

  8. This is a real stunner! The detail looks great and the finish is superb.

  9. Gorgeous! The variety of schemes worn on the Phantom is one of the things that makes it such a great subject. The all-black just looks sinister on an already brutish aircraft. Well done!

  10. Great job Ralph, painted with a hairy stick too.
    Well done mate.

  11. A hairbrush, and no brush strokes! 🙂

Really nice. I saw this bird down at a show at Miramar in the early 80s, thought it looked fantastic. You really caught it.

  12. Great build Ralph, the colour scheme is an interesting one also! The cockpit detail is amazing!

  13. Great work Ralph - the black is a nice choice ! - but a brave one - a real beauty well done !
