Jadgpanther 1:72 Dragon

Besides wanting to add one of these beasts to my display, the "Die Cast Metal Parts Included" intrigued me. The well detailed hull, tub/suspension are cast metal, already primed. Fitting the two pieces together require some filing and adjusting--not easily done with cast metal. The cartoonish instructions left a lot to be desired especially given the multiplicity and complexity of the road wheel system. The rubber tracks took paint well but were sever mm too short. Ended up stretching the tracks over the road wheels and holding them together with staples. The metal suspension was a god send. I finished it with Tamiya paints, Vallejo pigments, and oil paint for streaking and washes. It built up nice despite the challenges.

  1. Turned out nicely, Dennis...good work. Dragon is sometimes notorious for vague "instructions" - I found that to be the case when assembling their 1/6th scale line of machine guns. Lots of dry fitting and triple-checking of placement before committing any glue(s). I like your result, however.

  2. Looks nice Dennis, how does it compare in price to plastic kits? Would you do another one?

    • Thanks Tom. Not sure about the price. I picked this one up at an IPMS show for a song. I will avoid the die cast kits in the future unless it was the only way to do something that wasn't available anywhere else.

  3. You got a result with this one, but, reading about your problems, it definitely makes me steer clear of ever attempting one of these kits.

  4. Another great job Dennis! The weightiness of the cast hull adds a certain "something" to this kit.

  5. Nicely done - great scheme and weathering appears just about right.

  6. Interesting Kit - great colour scheme and weathering - have used staples myself with rubber tracks - sometimes its the only option ! well done and thanks - what other tanks do they produce?

  7. Looks great, you wouldn't think it was a small scale.
