Sharks are everywhere…49FG P-40K

September 26, 2016 · in Aviation · · 10 · 1.8K

Due to the recent profile posting I dusted one off. This one was built back when the "Special edition" K came out. It's been shelf sitting with it's 49er groupmates and has come out for a flight. Represents a 7th Squadron aircraft, flown by the commander, Franklin Nichols.

Was done with an UltraCast resin seat and True details wheels. They are aftermarket Decals, I forget whose, I wanna say Aeroscale.

I was very happy with my pics, they looked good on the review screen but a bunch came out with a bad yellowish tinge. I don't get it, it was a white background sheet. Maybe somebody can clue me in.

P-40's rule!

  1. Looks great, always room for a P40,I like the birds name, can you say it three time fast. not sure about the photo's, maybe the setting changed? or the light behind the camera? They still look good though.

  2. Nice job, Bill...I like it!

  3. Bill, great job on one of my favorite aircraft! Love the markings, I'd heard of them, this is the first time I've seen their squadron name on one of their airplanes. Agree saying that 3 times fast would be a real test. Hasegawa is the best P-40 in 48th, in my opinion.

  4. I'm a big fan of shark teeth on planes/military. With this P-40 I can see them in the purest form. Fine detailed model with realistic look. I must build P-40 😉 - Kittyhawk, Tomahawk or Warhawk ?

    • Thanks, that was a very informative article. If I get time I will try and retake these after attempting to adjust the WB.
BTW I like your Icon. That's what I feel like on Monday mornings.

  5. The epic story of the 49th FG and the Brereton route from Melbourne to Darwin deserves to be much better known - I have this kit in the stash must get round building it up - the 'K' with the big tail is a nice option - thanks Bill - nice variation and weathering on the finish - not always easy with an OD scheme!

  6. Nice looking Warhawk - weathering looks good, despite the photo problems. I don't have a lot of control over my pics (use my iPhone) other than the light used, so use a graphic program to correct for lightness, contrast and saturation to try to help more effectively white out the background and bring up some of the details in the photos better.

  7. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Good looking P-40 Bill. The weathering looks fine, very nice model .
