1/32 Scale Silver Wings Gloster Gladiator Mk 2, SAAF, 1940

October 19, 2016 · in Aviation · · 44 · 4.5K

This is a kit that I have wanted to build for a long time, I want to try and build as many SAAF Aircraft as I can, so this was one kit that I had to have, I was busy building the Vampire T Mk 55 when this kit arrived, and try as I may, I could not resist starting the build.
What an amazing resin kit, one of the best I have built ( this is the second one), the guys from really know what they are doing.

The only extra bits I used were Gas Path turn buckles, and EZ Line.

The Sutton Harness's were scratch built using lead strip.

I hope you all enjoy the pictures, I have tried to take better pictures this time (My Daughter helped)

This particular Gladiator was flown by Capt B.J.L ''Piggy" Boyle, 1 Squadron, Sudan, 1940.

Cheers

Marc

  1. Another stunner! Excellent weathering - how did you get the mottled look on the cowling - salt? Really a beautiful job!

  2. Hey Greg, No salt, I sprayed the copper color, did some weathering and used Tamiya gold, with a small brush to make it look weathered and chipped. Thanks for the kind comment though.

  3. I've yet to see a WNW kit that didn't look stunning and this is certainly no exception.

  4. Marc another masterclass offering. You really did an amazing job on this one. I think the top Allied Ace Marmaduke Pattle flew the Gladiator as well.

    • Sorry I meant to say Pattle was the top Allied Hurricane and Gloster Gladiator Ace of WW II. His tally of kills could have been 60 but many credit him with up to 50 kills.

  5. He was indeed, The next kit I have on my wish list is the Fiat CR 32 that flew against the SAAF during the same period. Maybe a CR 42 as well...Just wishing. Thanks for the kind comment my Maater.

  6. Hats off. You have made an ugly thing look cool. I doff my cap. ?

  7. A great classic build.

  8. UGLY? The Glad? Perish the thought. I always thought it rather elegant in it's rounded lines. Draggy indeed but that's the nature of the old tech.
Great job on that. Love the paint job, very subtle fading and stains. I did one of these yes it is a great kit.

  9. Marc, I must say, this turned out rather nice !. Everything about this looks really nice / very realistic. Well done !

  10. Awesome Marc! Well done. Great pics too!

  11. I didn't know Silver Wings kits, nor resin work, this Gladiator is really successful.

  12. Wonderful. In this scale the Gladiator surely looks stunning. Very well done.

  13. Very nice Marc, really did a bang up job on the paint job and weathering.

  14. Very nice, Marc. Well done.

  15. Top..Nice build

  16. I'm not really an aircraft man (N.B. Rob, if you read this, not an aircraftman, one below a LAC!), but this looks like a real winner. I'm sure I built an Airfix 1/72 version when I was a kid, the result was very different!

  17. Great job Marc! You did the two different colours on the top and bottom wing perfectly to me, have often wondered what that would have looked like in colour! Very nice!

  18. The detail in this build brings home the reality of going to war against Bf-109s in a Gladiator.

  19. The one and only Malta defender, great build the cockpit detail is stunning!
