Heavy Metal Car

I couldn't let my friend Dennis's armor kit go in answered. Here's my latest kit in quarter inch scale, the Tamiya Sd.Kfz.232. As Dennis has said numerous times, these kits go together fast with very little cleanup or puttying needed so one can get right to the painting and weathering.

I didn't throw the entire arsenal at this one, just some acrylic washes, some dry brushing and a little pigment powder.

So that's model number nine for the year. I'm still on track to get my 12 kits done for the year!

  1. Very nice work on this Spähwagen indeed Scott. Yes Tamiya still has manageable kits with clear instructions. Fun to build! Cheers.

    • Thanks Michel. I do like the way Tamiya simplifies parts, yet keeps up good detail. I just picked up an AFV Club Centurion and as I examined the instructions I saw places where AFV Club had 10 parts where Tamiya would use one.

  2. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Nice work Scott, good work on the camouflage, looks very convincing from every angle.

  3. Nice piece of work, Scott...looks "just right". 🙂

  4. Looks great. I don't usually do armour, but I like the 1/48 scale.

  5. Nice job Scott! I'm not usually a big fan of WW2 German armored cars--they look like the inspiration for the Road Warrior movie vehicles--but your camouflage gave this one some character.

I appreciate your minimalist approach on this one.

BTW My 38(t) [http://imodeler.com/2016/10/tamiya-148-scale-panzerkampfwagen-38t-ausf-ef/] was kit 8 for me this year. Hopefully I can match you 12 this year.

  6. Scott, nice 8 rad. Camouflage looks spot on.
Hoping for Tamiya to do a WW II US bomb loading truck and Dodge command car, or a half ton truck. Gas tanker with a steeple cab tractor would also be nice, and the oft seen Dodge(?) ambulance, and the Clectrack.

  7. Interesting subject. This model looks really heavy as it is in real life. I made similar kind of Matchbox model when I was a kid (just after Vietnam war). Thank you for cool model & fine flashback. 🙂

  8. Very convincing looking model, Scott, thanks for sharing.

  9. You can t go wrong with Tamiya, looks great !

  10. Fantastic result! Great choice of subject.
