Hasegawa 1/48 "Captured" Kawanishi N1K2-J
This was is a great build for an old kit. No filler used at all, even the pesky fuselage/wing join. I used Rising Decals "Dying Sun Pt.III and they worked great. For chipping I first laid down some Tamiya Flat Aluminum and the painted over it with Tamiya J.N. Green XF-11. When it was thoroughly dry, I used ½" X ½" pieces of full strength blue painters tape and started lifting off the green paint
This the first of them, with the raised panel lines?

Nice to see a different treatment - captured birds are always interesting. Looks like your treatment for chipping worked well.
I've seen that last photo, or others taken at the same time. They were being flown to a collection point by japanese pilots, escorted by ours. I'd guess it was Gendas group, though hard to tell with the tailcodes overpainted. A lot of other aircraft were disabled by having their propellers removed. Some of the pilots might have tried a last kamikaze. Flights by japanese aircraft were strictly controlled, with special markings. Eventually that ended, and the aircraft were either shipped stateside for evaluation, tested locally, and then the remainder destroyed.
Thanks all, I can't remember the last aircraft I built that was marked or coloured normally. Bernard, according to the scalemates.com site the kit was released in the '80s with the number U002-700, with raised panel lines.

George, thanks! I thought so. The box art on that was one of the best I've ever seen, and the kit is a beaut. I remember the 50th Tamiya from way back. Wonder if this is one of the Mania kits, now that I think about it. I'll have a look, thanks for the link.
