Lindberg 1/48 Gloster "Gladiator" Mk.II

March 21, 2017 · in Aviation · · 18 · 2.9K

This is the old Life-Like, Ideal, Gloster . In it's time (long ago) it was a decent kit. I modified it a little, to make a "stunt" plane out of it. The prop was from the Mk.I kit, and the seat/pilot/interior/windscreen were all changed. It was a fun build, and not to be taken too seriously.

Since it was made as a gift for a friend, I did it up in the colors, and name, of the pub his late brothers owned. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it !

  1. Different Joe, and I like it a lot.

  2. Joe, it's the old Inpact, Pyro, Lifelike, Lindberg Gladiator.
Great idea, your friend will be pleased. Made your own decals?

  3. You're braver (and apparently more patient) than I, Joe...I shy away from anything with two wings, struts and rigging. The build did turn out well, though. Kudos yo you, my friend.

  4. I wondered where the bright paint scheme came from! Nice build of a flying billboard!

  5. What a spiffy looking kite, well done Joe

  6. Nice, Joe! It will make great advertising at the pub. Plus, it'll make a great conversation piece.

  7. Looks like a St. Partick's Day Aerobatic Team! I'm sure it fits well in the pub context

  8. I built this kit in the 90's. It was my first biplane and I though the fit was rather good for an oldie. I did like the fabric textures on the parts! Yours turned out nicely. Looks like you laid down a nice smooth coat of green and the copper really pops on the underside! Also nice masking between the two. That wing is mighty thin! (What shade of green BTW? It looks like it's a good match for my Super Solution.) Is your friend one of the two Sheas who own a restaurant?

    • Josh, I used Krylon Gloss Emerald Green. The "copper" is actually a gold (blame the camera) There were 3 brothers, two of which, owned Shea's. Those two have passed away, the pub sold. This was just a memory for the third (and youngest). I am a friend of the sister of the three. Long story..

  9. Joe, in the late 30s, the Irish Air Corps had Gladiator Is, and the fuselage was painted light green! The wings and horizontal stabs were doped aluminum. There were green white and orange stripes on the tops and bottoms of both wings.
I really like what you came up with.
Max decals in Ireland has a Gladiator pre-and war time on their Irish Air Corps sheet(s) both 48th and 72nd.
