May 7, 2017 · in Aviation · 11 · 1.6K

Hi guys

My father has finished another model in the latest 15 days. I hope you like it.

Here are the final photos of the Consolidated PB2Y Coronado JX501.

It was used as transport serving with RAF Transport Commandfor trasatlantic flights staging through the RAF based at Darrell´s Island, Bermuda and Puerto Rico.

Cheers
Santiago

  1. Please pass along my compliments to your father on yet another piece of masterful work.

  2. I've never heard of this aircraft before and I've never seen a multi engine aircraft with different propeller combinations like this ,do you have any information as to why it is set up in this way ?
Nice work by the way !

  3. I've done a bit of research and I think the four bladed props on the inner engines can be reversed to provide engine braking and to allow the aircraft to go in reverse when it is on the water, but I could be wrong ,it has happened before...quite often actually.

  4. Is this a vacuform? I remember there was an injected kit, perhaps MACH 2? Great work, really a rare model.

  5. Neil, the aircraft came around in the 30s, as a long range scouting aircraft and bomber. I saw an old movie recently where one was being used as a flag plane, with an Admiral aboard. They realized that it was large, slow, and vulnerable, so they pulled out the guns and used them in WWII as a casualty evac and transport.
I think you're right about the different props.

  6. Very nice! and unusual.

  7. Nice, interesting model Santiago, your dad has done well.
