Bell Aircraft X-5 – Revell 1/40th

July 14, 2017 · in Aviation · · 7 · 1.8K

The first aircraft to change the geometry of the wing in flight. This design was taken from the Messerschmidt P.1101 aircraft.

The Revell kit goes back to the 1950s. This kit follows the norm of the time period, like moving wings and control surfaces. It is interesting to note that this kit has engraved detail.

Mods:

  1. Reworked the air data probe.
  2. Added a better pilot figure

  1. Another nice and unusual build. I knew this was your post the second I saw it in the headlines! This one's pretty cool - I'd never seen this aircraft before that I remember.

  2. As Greg stated, a nice build. I have, however, seen this aircraft before (one of the several experimental X-planes of the late 50's-early 60's developed and flown at Edwards AFB)...matter of fact, I have a 1/144th pre-built kit of that and several others that came in a set .

  3. Awesome! History in miniature!

    Great job, Steve E.!

  4. Excellent job !

  5. Steve, first time I've actually seen one built. I had one, years ago. Revell flirted with 1/40th, as their mechanical/bells and whistles Skyraider, and their P-39. Great to finally see one done, nice work.

  6. Looks great Steve & certainly doesn't show the age of the kit. I haven't seen one built before either.
