Airpower 16

August 1, 2017 · in Show Reports · 8 · 1.8K

Here's some pictures I took at last year's Airpower Austrian air show. This event takes place in the south of Austria, with two days of in-flight and static displays from a bunch of different European countries.
Airpower used to happen every two years, but due to budget restraints it looks like the next show will take place in 2019. Anyway, if you happen to be somewhere near, it is definitely worth a trip!

  1. Great photos, Boris! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Yeah...what Jeff said!

  3. European (and Canadian) teams beat the socks off the conservative US teams, always have.

    • Yes. The Blues were at EAA this year for the first time and the Thunderbirds were first timers in 2015 but I really enjoyed the Snowbirds show last year. It is a much more of a dynamic show. (That said I also really miss seeing The Eagles fly. The three abreast snap roll on takeoff was always exciting!)

  4. Great photos. I had the opportunity to catch the Patriouille de France this past spring during their U.S. tour. Their large formation work and and positional changes were impressive to see...I still prefer the noise, afterburners, speed, and power of the U.S. teams though! 🙂

  5. Cool pictures, Boris, thanks for showing them to us.

  6. I do enjoy the colored smoke of the Italian and French teams. (I think the Red Arrows do this too. Would love for Frecce Tricolori to come back to EAA. We just had the Snowbirds last year. Would be cool to get Patrouille de France and Red Arrows to come in 2018, 2019 and 2020. That would give us six jet teams in six years! Would really enjoy seeing The Swifts and Russian Knights as well, but that might not happen for a while.
