Airfix 1/72 scale DH Mosquito NF-II (special) 23 Squadron RAF Bradwell Bay 1942

September 17, 2017 · in Aviation · · 18 · 2.1K

Yes finaly ready. It took me longer to finish this project due to the "real life" taking up much time.
Anyway I'm very pleased with the outcome, specialy now the base is finished as well.
It is build mostly OOB, only added the radio platform in the cockpit and two crewmembers. The radio wire used is superfine size rigging wire from Ushi van der Rosten, and works great for scale.
The original aircraft DD-712 YP-R flew as a nightfighter (special) without the usual nightradar equipment. This is something I had to adjust as the radar arial is left off the nose and a scratch build plug was put in place.
The base is build from the downloadable concrete floor sheet from Scalescenes. After printing I've cut the separate concrete slabs and glued them on grey cardboard. When this had dried the whole section was glued in it's turn on 3 mm airbrush cardboard which is very rigid. Using model railway grass and various pastelpowders I've added some dirt and weathering to the concrete.
The original YP-R flying from RAF Bradwell Bay was lost during a intruder mission in France on 29 october 1942 with the unfortunate loss of both crewmembers.

The build progress can be seen here; http://imodeler.com/groups/work-in-progress-aircraft/forum/topic/172-airfix-dh-mosquito-nf-mkii/

I hope you like it.
Cheers, Ferry.

  1. Lovely build, Ferry. Elegant like real thing, and that base is beautifully done.

  2. Very nice Ferry, lovely smooth finish. Also like your use of an
"off black". To me it looks much better on a model than true black, especially with smaller scales

  3. Nice job all around, sir...I like it.
