1/350 DKM U-boat VII B & Arado Ar 196

October 13, 2017 · in Ships · · 27 · 4.8K

I made a diorama for a short rest before performing a top-secret mission.

Through Google Earth, we've referred to a lot of pictures of the Norvik coast. However, I feel bad because it is totally different. The color and transparency of water are different from what I intend to do.

There is a lot of frustration in many ways. However, it is somewhat satisfactory.
I will take this to an exhibition in Taiwan next week.

  1. Another interesting dio, Won-hui. I think the issue you’ve identified is possibly the crystal blue of the water, whereas Northern Europeans (presume you meant Narvik in Norway) are perhaps more used to predominantly green-grey. But don’t ‘sell yourself short’ - this is lovely work. Good luck at the show.

  2. Another amazing diorama. As an aircraft modeler, I'm amazed at the life-likeness you achieve on that 350 scale 196! Yikes!

  3. Regardless of the color of the water, that is wondersful!

  4. I'm sorry, but I think you are right Won-hui.
I took part in the Arctic Sea Kayak Race not far from Narvik twice. The color of the water and the vegetation on the island don't remind me much of northern Norway.
But it's a nice diorama anyway. Keep up the good work.

    • Thank you very much for your frankness. I used blue color in my habit. Green-Grey color...Next time I want to make that color.
...You have a wonderful experience of joining the kayak race.

      • I've spent a large part of my life in small boats, particularly in kayaks. It gave me a very live experience of waves. That's why I don't try to make water dioramas any more. I'm overly critical.

  5. Very well done, water color or not!

  6. You, sir, are a water diorama beast...another stunner!

  7. Superb modelling once again. I think the colours are more reminiscent of the Mediterranean. Nonetheless this is probably one of the best examples of seascape modelling you will see anywhere.

    • I think it might be the Mediterranean or the Pacific Ocean.
It was a good judgment not to put a place in the title. Hahaha...
      Thank you for your compliment.

  8. Your modelling is great, Lee, but, yes, I think the colour is wrong for this part of the world, a kind of grey/green would be more accurate.

    • Sadly, I totally agree with you. I would have fooled everybody if I told them it wasn't Norway, but the Mediterranean Sea. Of course I would have felt guilty if I had. LOL

  9. Simply a great build, maybe the secret mission took them to the Pacific?

  10. Wonderful water work. What materiel do you use for water? I am planning a 1/72 Betty/Okha drop flying over the 1/700 Yorktown and its destroyer escort, but after working with Woodland Scenics Water, I am a bit put off with that medium

    • I used epoxy resin, and Ak interactive's water gel transparent.
You can use the epoxy resin. But you must remember that the heat of the epoxy resin can melt the kit.

  11. Terrific! For the first time I see such natural water!

  12. How did you make the water?

  13. Thank you very much. ^^
