To further ensure scale modelling immortality for this magnificent aircraft, we are excited to bring Workbench readers the exclusive news that a newly tooled example of the Bristol Mk.IF will be taking its place in our ever popular 1/48th scale model range in 2018. This will delight fans of this larger scale of kits and WWII modellers alike and will provide them with a highly accurate and impressively proportioned model representation of this classic aircraft. This will also be a significant addition to the range, being the first twin engine WWII aircraft type to be produced using the very latest design and manufacturing techniques. Even though our existing 1/72nd scale kit builds into an impressive example of the famous Blenheim, this new 1/48th scale version promises to be something very special indeed and one that will serve as a centerpiece in many a model display, in the weeks and months following its release.

  1. Expecting to see the sprues at Telford in November.

  2. This is very exciting news. I'm building the new 1/48th Airfix Walrus at the moment. I think the detail and fit is very good. I'm sure the new Blenheim will be just as good.

  3. This cheered me up so much. I love looking at the new BF109 variant as much as the next man, but Airfix bringing out the BPD, the Walrus and now a Blenheim is just great. Their new tools seem to be of very high quality, so let's hope (and I know this could be naive) they are well supported as they wow us with some diversity! As my friend said when he heard - put me down for 2!

  4. The Blenheim is a very attractive aircraft (in my eyes anyway), and I'm sure Airfix will make a good job of it, I hope they will be rewarded and that some will actually be built and not just added to the stash.

  5. P.S. I'd really like to get hold of a Gloster Javelin kit, anyone got one they'd like to pass on?

    • Loads on EBay, George, all for around £50. Don’t know about postage to China though. Also various aftermarket etch available.

      • Hi Rob, thanks for replying. Here in China many web sites that are taken for granted in the west are not available including EBay, Twitter, UTube, etc, and many others are often censored, including iModeler, which is sometimes "not available". Also postage might be a problem. I'm planning a trip to Hong Kong sometime later so maybe I'll find one there.

  6. Good news for many, I'm sure. But this genre of aircraft somehow just doesn't appeal to my 'tastes'. Thanks for the update, though.

  7. I really loved the 1/72 kits. Can't wait to see it in 1/48! I could easily build 4 Blenheims assuming they expanded into Mk.iv territory. Now, if they could just improve their US distribution.

  8. Looking very forward to seeing this kit. Airfix continues to introduce more and more early war British aircraft.

  9. And probably they'll follow on with a -4 with that weird nose. Maybe a Hampton, too? We live in hope.

    • I'm in favor of a Hampden in 1/72 to the quality/detail level of the Blenheim, Do-17Z and He-111 (all excellent), to go with the other Bomber Command aircraft in that scale that are good.

  10. Gotta sell my Classic Airframes kit now. Lol. Anyone want one? Lol

  11. The Sea Fury in 1/48 is at the top of my list! I still think Airfix should do a 1/48 Supermarine Scimitar!

  12. Morne, Scimitar! Be still, my heart!

    • The TOP 3 aircraft on my list of models to build in 1/48 has always been the Vought Cutlass, Grumman F11F Tiger and the Supermarine Scimitar. Kittyhawk announced a 1/32 scale F11F Tiger but only CAD drawings were released, so lets hope they produce it. That prompted me to get the Vought Cutlass in 1/32. So hopefully the message will get through to Airfix to do a Scimitar since they have done the Sea Vixen and announced a Royal Navy F 4 Phantom.
