1/48 Tamiya P-47D “Nut Cracker” 405th FG

February 24, 2018 · in Aviation · · 11 · 1.5K

I am going back and revisiting some of my older P-47s and giving them additional weathering and tidy ups where possible. As we all know trying to work on finished models has it share of risk...I managed to snap the UC leg on this one though repair was successfully carried out!
One of my favourite schemes and maybe one day will redo from scratch...

Happy Modelling!
Darren

  1. Darren, this looks fantastic, a wonderful finish, attractive markings, and its a P-47, what's not to like ?, and you can't be a good model builder if your not a good repairman. Very well done.
    (did I mention I like P-47s !)

  2. Just how long ago did you build this beauty? It certainly looks fresh made 😉
More seriously, got to say yours is a fantastic Jug, flawlessly painted and subtly weathered. I’m planning tackling the one I have in my stash (for some years now) sometime soon. It will be my very first NMF and first P-47, just wishing it turns out half as good looking as yours Darren. Congratulations a great build

  3. Good looking Jug Darren, colorful as well. Excellent job on that NMF finish too.

  4. Darren, I love the name on this, where did you get the decals? It really looks the part.

    • HI Bernard The decals are from and Aeromaster 405th FG Special release from probably 20 years ago. You can still get these decals from Norris Graser at [email protected]. Norris did the research for these sheets and they are excellent! I am refurbishing "Tommy Gunner" at the moment, she required a little more work including seam repair, repaint of OD and snapped the aerial mast off...Images below are what Tommy Gunner looked like before the facelift...

  5. Beautiful work, sir...love them "Jugs". 🙂

  6. Darren isn't it amazing how old the Tamiya P-47's are now? I have yet to build one, I just finally built a Tamiya Corsair. I only have been able to build a still very good Monogram Razorback and a Hasegawa Bubble so far. Both fun to build, but I am so looking forward to doing all 3 Tam kits when that time comes. Won't be this year though. Got a lot planned this year. Love those T-bolts. Thanks for sharing.

  7. It's always good to have a look back at your old kits and tidy them up if necessary, this one looks great.

  8. Very nice, and I can see why you like the scheme. Great job "bring it up to modern standard."

  9. Nice looking P-47.
