Pilatus PC 21, 1/32 Scale Scratch Build, Part 6

February 7, 2018 · in Aviation · · 10 · 1.8K

Well back at the bench, with all the things going on, I thought I would sit down and take my mind off things, so I decided to start with the wings, and this is what I have done so far.

Firstly I marked out the wings on a piece of plastic card, cutting back on the leading edge by about 10 mm, as I want to laminate some card and shape the leading edge once I have glued the top skin into position.
Then I started to measure out the main spar and secondary spar, making sure that I get the dihedral just right, this is at about 4,5 deg from horizontal, glued them into position, and added stiffeners so that the wing wont twist while I am working with it.
I then marked out the wheel wells and cut them out, making sure of the position and alignment.
Started to make the wheel well side walls and will sand them down to suit the wing shape.

I will start with the detail tomorrow and then add the upper wing skin, and add the winglets.

Hope you enjoy the progress so far.

Thank you for all your support so far, you guy's are amazing.

Marc

Wonderful, crisp work. Scratchbuilding i a lot about thinking ahead to foresee potential problems coming up. You seem to be doing a very good of that. I'm looking forward to seeing the continuation of this build.
