1/48 Tamiya Beaufighter 455 Squadron (RAAF)

March 10, 2018 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.4K

Here is my from 455 Squadron (RAAF)
Ultracast exhausts and DK Decals for the artwork codes etc.
I have plans for a few more Beaufighters - RAAF Mk21 and at least 2 nightfighters.
Great kit and still stands the test of time, though would be interested to see what the new Revell kit looks like and dare I say it, the future 1/48 Airfix kit when it is released down the track...

  1. Now that right there is simply beautiful, Darren. 🙂

  2. A good job

    regards

  3. And now some great weathering and perfect 'invasion stripes' - really impressive!

  4. I've always like the Beaufighter every since the first Airfix 1/72 kit issued in the 1950s, and this Tamiya 1/48 version looks great.

  5. really nice build. I have never built one of these but I think I am ready to give it a try.

  6. Great to see a Beaufighter posted. I am currently building a SAAF version. Your model looks great. Subtle weathering and all round museum quality makes this one stand out! Well done!

  7. I'm definitely getting myself some of that Xtracrylix finish, the results you get are stunning. I think it's a matter of time before 'new Airfix' gets on top of this one.

The stripes are particularly well done, they really look embedded.

  8. This is a great Beaufighter, Darren! Your stripes are perfect and it's nicely weathered, too. Very subtle, but real. I love the stubby nose with the engines forward of it, plus the up-turned horizontal stabilizers. It looks like it's flying 400 MPH sitting on the tarmac!

A friend of mine married a girl from England whose Father had flown Beaufighters during WWII, but I never got to talk to the gent, but my friend had gotten to speak with him before he passed. He had many stories that he told my friend. God Rest all those old gents in all the countries who fought for our freedoms.

  9. Great-looking Beau!

  10. Love the Beaufighter, and love what you've done with it.
