Pilatus PC 21, 1/32 Scale Scratch Build, Part 9

March 25, 2018 · in Aviation · · 21 · 1.8K

I just had to post this, I finished scribing the panel lines on the nose and the upper wing surfaces, and I thought I would give it a coat of the blue. I love this color, I think its better than the red, I am so happy with it so far.

Work done the last 2 day's:

I removed the cockpit tubs and made the instrument panel covers and head up display. I used 0.25mm plastic card, this was a little tricky, but it worked out after a few tries.
I then started to scribe the panel lines on the wings and the front half of the fuselage. Sanded with fine water paper and primed the whole aircraft, checked for imperfections.

The impatience got the better of me...I started painting the upper half of the aircraft in the blue, I could not stop until I painted the upper half of the wings. I really like the finish I got, I first painted a base coat, let it dry, then took a really fine water paper, I the rubbed the whole area down, and then sprayed a 50/50 mix, paint and thinner, it really put a shine on, no clear gloss needed. I have a little over spray that I need to sort in the engine bay, and I still need to install the cockpit rail, and touch up a few imperfections, but I think it looks ok so far...Oh yes, and install the control columns.

I hope you like my indulgence so far...

Cheers

Marc

  3. What a beautiful plane this is ! Nice choice of color with the blue. Now that propeller sort of reminds me of a late Griffon powered Mk. XIX Spitfire. 🙂
