Fujimi 1/72 RF-4B Marine Recon Phantom,VMFP-3

April 18, 2018 · in Aviation · · 12 · 2.5K

Exclusively used by the US Marines,46 built, based on the Navy's F-4B , with the thin tires and wings[the last 10 having the wider tire/wing] , in service from 1965-1990. Saw service in Vietnam and numerous detachments where needed usually in the Far East. Built It straight out of the box except for some old resin Martin Baker seats[not that you can tell]. I used kit decals of overall gull grey 1980's scheme.

  1. Looks really good Robert, nice and clean, the way I like it, it's mates look good as well !

  2. Ain't Phantoms just downright beautifully ugly ? ...love the added pics, too.

  3. Very cool Robert... I especially like the Mad Comic book "Spy vs. Spy" tail fin art... It's been a long time since I have seen that. You made my day.

I also like the companion planes in the one photo... good stuff.

  4. Nice work, Robert. I built a few 1/72 Fujimi F-4s back in the day. Is the one in the photo about to launch onboard Kitty Hawk? Looks like 63 on the deck. I’ve never seen one of these onboard any carrier except Midway.

  5. Nicely done Robert, good looking Phantom.

  6. Semper Fidelis! A great build Robert! I like the fact you take pics as an example and then build the thing in 3D! Now all you have left to do is build the carrier in the same scale and still be able to fit your car in the garage 🙂

  7. Ha! Ain't it the truth, thanks.

  8. Looks great! Just got back some scans of old slides of my dad in the AF version of this (believe the D model).

  9. Bacon and eggs.
    Bogart and Bacall.
    Gin and Tonic.
    Bob Royes and Phantoms.
Well done, sir, especially in 72nd.

  10. Awesome, Robert! I like the long, slender nose Phantoms best. They look like they're going 1000 mph sitting still on the deck! Great work on the other planes, too. That's an outstanding collection of Marine air-power covering numerous decades.
