Hasegawa 1/72 F/A-18D Hornet

Another nice kit by Hasegawa. Kit is out-of-the-box with USMC markings, made to accompany modern USAF and NAVY planes on my shelf. Parts fit fine, but there’s not many of them, and there’s very little choice of weapons included (2x Sidewinders, 2x Sparrows and 2x Harpoons). As usual, it’s in boring grey scale scheme, but also very suitable for practicing worn/dust/rust effects.

  1. Great looking Hornet! Looks good wheels up.

  2. Beautifully done, Boris (love the display).

  3. Very nice! How did you get the weathered effect – did you do any “black basing” or was it all post shading and weathering?

    • I did preshading with black paint along panel lines, then after main coat I tried salt weathering technique with very thinned black and white paint. After decals I applyed two coats of wash, first in black on whole model to fill in panel lines, then brown on smaller surfaces for rust and dirt effect. For wash I used powdered hair chalk mixed with dishwasher detergent and water.

  4. Nice build! I love the finish on the top and wings.
