I’ve really loved this photo for some time and my understanding is that the pilot in this setting is none other than Lothar von Richthofen. The DIII belonged to his big brother, who passed it on to him (at least that’s the story I like). Having a look on google this morning suggests the man talking to Lothar is ‘possibly’ Emil Schaefer. Tom C may shed some light on this.
