Hurricane Mk.I early (Airfix 1/72)

June 2, 2018 · in Aviation · · 27 · 3.2K

Hi everybody! I have some issues with abnormal craving for early versions of a well-known aircraft – two-blade props, strange canopies like on an early Spitfire, strange camouflage patterns, and so on. And this is a very early version – a beautiful plane from a Golden Age of aviation. You can see these visual differences: two-blade Watts propeller, kidney-type exhausts, fabric wings, Venturi tube, no aft ventral fin and other small details.

Kit from is the best model of Hurricae in scale, I think – good detail level out of the box, best wheel bay and cockpit details. But, it can be improved, so I've used aftermarket sets from Eduard, CMK, Yahu (instrumental panel) and Rob Taurus (vacu-canopy) to improve this kit. In addition I did some scratch building: navigation lights, tubing, and so on. Also, I've fixed panel lines on the top side of the wing (too much fabric). Decals by Iliad Design – "Pre-war Hurricanes".

Painted mostly with AKAN water-based acrylics, weathered with artistic oils and pigments.

Thank you for watching!

  1. Fabulous and beautiful model of early Hurricane. Awesome job with cockpit in small scale. Looks like a much bigger model. Really well done!

  2. A beautiful model of this iconic aircraft.

  3. I agree with Paul...excellent work in that scale - (nice effect with the reflection, too) - 🙂

  4. Outstanding work Dmitry, that cockpit is a stunner for all of detail you've done for that scale.

    Superb build Dmitry.

  6. Lovely build, Dmitri, especially like the flat finish and very effective fabric surfaces.

  7. Looks good Dmitry, nicely detailed, well done.

  8. Liked it a lot. You applied any possible improvement to this already good kit and the results are awesome! One of the best Hurricanes built in 1/72 that I have seen.

  9. Love it Dmitry! Details look excellent - and you can't go wrong with those classic lines!

  10. Beautiful! I too like the early birdies, the first Hurri kites were the best looking, if not a candidate for best looking WW2 fighter. Great job on that, the 1/72 Airfix looks like a helluva kit.

  11. I am speechless- what a beauty! My congratulations to this masterpiece!

  12. Well, just stumbled over your very excellent model searching for material for my own "early Hurricane". I am still amazed this is 1:72 scale!
Mine has been done with a lot of resin and the awful Italeri-Hurricane Mk.I kit 🙂

  13. Beautifully finished model. Professional work. Well done sir.
