iModeler June Awards

July 24, 2018 · in News · · 20 · 2.4K

A bit of panic struck last week as we realized that it's already past the middle of July and time was really pressing to conclude our monthly contest. Today, after numerous discussions but without further ado, it is my sincere pleasure to bring your the results of our deliberations.

As usual, we're looking back at the previous month: the 135 articles submitted to the iModeler Headlines in June. The jury this month were @editor, @magnusf, @gregax and @raikisan.

A word of explanation about our contest. All Headline contributions are included in our traditional monthly prize draw. We're awarding the Best in Show title to the entry that in the eyes of the jury represents the month's highlight in terms of modeling quality and presentation. We also allot a second award to a randomly chosen article to emphasize that all contributions to this site deserve recognition.

Please don't hesitate to join iModeler and take part in our next monthly roundup.

iModeler Best in Show - June 2018

This month's jury award goes to Gary Sausmikat and his vignette "Saturday, Dec 6th, 1941…". The jury liked everything about this simple dio, not only the aircraft, but also the perfectly executed water and the pair of figures that add a context and an intriguing story. The design of the dio appears simple but one should not be fooled - it takes thought, effort and skill to successfully create a scene that "takes you there" in the way that this model does. Well done!

Gary's other contribution this month, a wooden Brig Niagara, also deserves a mention.

But wait, there is more!

We are also awarding a prize as a token of appreciation to all our contributors. This is selected through an entirely random draw among all the entries of the month. This time, our lucky winner is the "Old Missouri" by Carmelo Rodrigo.

  1. Congrats to the winners, well done everyone

  2. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first time I can recall a second entry from the same modeler being headlined as the "Best in Show" - just goes to show how difficult it can be to pick a so-called winner from all the contributors. Congrats to Gary and everyone else showcased this month.

  3. ? Congrats to the winner ?
And thank you for the nominee.
Glad to be part of such a community.

  4. Congrats! And excellent work again all the way around.

  5. Great choices! Congrats!

  6. Gary Sausmikat and his vignette “Saturday, Dec 6th, 1941…”.

The three main elements of water ,pilots and plane are held together by the H20. It really gives the illusion of movement and makes what most of us take for granted while on the beach... is made special and interesting when represented on this dio. Taking the ordinary and making it unique. A out of the box dio. Worthy of wearing the mantle of "Model of the Month".

  7. Worthy works of art, all. And that Kingfisher...wow. #Gobsmacked.

  8. A well deserved award. I love every bit of that dio.

  9. Congratulations folks!
I think we can safely say that when this article comes around every month, we are looking at the best models currently being built anywhere and everywhere in the world!
Now that is some community! And a pleasure to be a member! 🙂

  10. Congrats to everyone... and again, I wouldn't want to be a judge for this group. That would be a hard decision to make as they are all outstanding picks.

The Kingfisher looks great in the pre war "Yellow Wings" paint scheme...and it's from the Arizona no less.

  11. congrats everyone...gorgeous Kingfisher dio Gary and wonderful brig

  12. Congratulations all! Fantastic and inspiring work.

  13. Thank you all! It was a cool (can I still say that? lol) surprise to learn of the prize. But it's even more meaningful coming from this site... to quote Mr. Mcstay, in his above comment..."Now that is some community! And a pleasure to be a member!" Thanks again...look forward to posting more in the future...keep on modeling!

  14. Great job Gary, well deserved. I'm always impressed with the exceptional models displayed by this community. Hats off to all that submit their works.
