The Ho-229 Display Stand

July 26, 2018 · in Aviation · · 12 · 2.1K

After I finished my Z-M Ho-229, I realized there was something missing. I thought that the pieces that didn't go on the final model needed to be displayed separtely. So, I built this little stand to hold the top of the wing, body, nose, and engine parts. I used Evergreen "I"-beam, round and flat styrene stock. The top was made from basswood pieces cut to various lengths. It only took a couple of days to build. The wood was stained with a mixture of oils I had sitting around, and the bottom of the stand was painted with Mission Models acrylics.I added some light rust stains for interest.

  1. Great way to present even these pieces George, the museum will be thrilled about that too! Kudos!

  2. I think this is entirely right, I've been seeing many beautifully opened-up models on shows with surplus covers just spread out randomly over a glass baseplate, and IMHO it makes them look a bit out of place. This looks like a perfect solution in terms of presentation!

  3. Very good! This is just perfect.

  4. Great idea, George "... the "hits jus' keep on comin'..." - 🙂

  5. Outstanding, George! Great finish to a great model!

  6. THanks, everybody. I kept putting it off because I didn't want to deal with the nose section decals. Those compound curves were daunting. Finally had to suck it up and get things done.

  7. On a side note, my wife wants me to build a deck in the backyard after seeing this. Wants me to scale this thing up.

  8. What a great idea, came out very good. I cannot tell u how many times I have built a model with removable parts only to have them lay around next to the model, or go missing all together. People would say...Oh did those pieces just break off the model? Why didnt I think of this...LOL!

  9. Looks fantastic!

  10. Superb, George. Just superb.
