The Krazny Ritter: Captured ME-109 G, Revell 1:72, “Caged Warbirds” serie

July 22, 2018 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.4K

As my fourth "Caged Warbird" built, I bring to you this russian ME-109 G, 1:72. The inspiration, this captured plane seen in Pinterest:

This model is not as good as it could be, a lot of ribs to cut, but finally I think the result was pretty good. The paint is Vallejo, chipped with hair spray, Vallejo and Humbrol coats and all the "decals" are painted using hand made masks.Bad thing, the canopy plastic is not good enough so the interior is not clearly seen, sadly. For the first time I used Vallejo pigments and once I understood hot to use them, was quite nice.

Here is the whole collection, at the time: the Akutan Ronin, the Tamed Horse and the Captive Jaeger:

  2. Nice work Alfredo - great collection love the snow camo and weathering on the Me 109

  3. Very cool little 109. Like the whole theme and collection!

  4. Interesting theme making a nice and unusual collection of common fighters in different clothes.

  5. That's a great-looking 109 - love the winter camo and the weathering looks very nice. A nice collection of birds in unusual livery!

  6. WoW! Well done, Alfredo! I have enjoyed all 4 of your "Caged Warbird" series and have considered doing something similar with Armor. This Me109 is especially nice in the dirty white of the Russian use of the plane.

  7. This is definitely a great series of builds. This is something that you don't normally see done. Planes ( and tanks like Jeff mentioned) were occasionally seen in use by the victor, but not too often. I think the Soviets and Germans were more prone to doing this than the others.

I remember several years ago reading about the captured Japanese planes from the South Pacific, and how they were marked by the British and Americans.

I wouldn't worry too much about the canopy of your 109... To me it makes the model look more realistic, as if it was actually cold outside, and the glass started to frost over a little from the cold.

Well done my friend. The names of the planes is like icing on the cake...

  8. Hello Alfredo,
Very interesting subject. It is finished nicely, with a difficult overall paint job and good weathering. Regards, Dirk / The Netherlands.

  9. I like it! Looks completely knackered as it almost certainly was. I expect the Russians were suitably sniffy about it, despite the Erla canopy.
