Not Tamiya… but Zvezda 109 G-6 1/48
I’ve started some months ago a WIP doing a side by side build of 2 bf.109 G-6, one from Eduard and the other from the lesser know mould of the russian company Zvezda.
As you can see the kit builds very well providing one carefully reads the instructions and does some dry runs before glue. I know I didn’t and had some mishaps with the engine being a tad too forefront. It has the best OOB cockpit tube and some really nice shape and details, the complete engine being one of the best around in plastic. I didn’t use the decals, but they do look a bit suspicious although the colors and density look Ok.
Anyway it is painted to depict Oblt. Klopper from 7./JG 1, an ace with 91 kills when he force landed this exact plane in Holland, november 13th 1943. Klopper would be killed 16 days later this date with a total of 94 Abschuss (Kills). Decals for the victory bars and nazi symbol came from Kagero book about JG.1, all other marlins were painted. Stencils are from Eduard but they silvered a bit.
Hope you enjoy!

The Zvesda 109s are excellent. I think the F series is still the best, and certainly your G is very nice, too.

Indeed they are, lots of options including some that no other brand offers, regardless of the scale. I’m thinking of the one piece wing used on the first F models, and likewise the seat used on these early machines, a carry over from the E version. Now wich one of the 3 versions Zvezda offers is the best that’s more a personal taste, but the G is terrific

Fantastic work my friend !!!! It turned out excellent, and you really have the mottling down to a science………………….. Well done indeed. I especially like how the engine looks with the cowls opened up. Two thumbs up Sir !!! I like it……….. a LOT !!!!

Thank you Louis! Too bad the MGs are all but unseen…I replaced the barrels for a pair of turned brass and that was the worst money I’ve spent lately :-))
The MRP paint is awesome to go mottling aircraft

Good looking 109 Pedro, and that engine detail really pops.
Pedro L. Rocha said on August 12, 2018
Thanks Tom, the engine can be fully exposed by dropping the lower radiator area, but I had to make it without that much exposure unfortunately.

Very nice 109. Zvezda kit is indeed a great one, the engine detail is the best injection moulded attempt I’ve seen in this scale. Kudo’s!

Very nice paintwork on this, really makes the model pop.
There’s a real easy way to solve the silvering problem with the walkway decals, even at this stage. Take a #11 blade and slice the decals in several place where it silvered, really slice it up. Then slather on decal setting solution. Slicing lets the air under the decals (the cause of the problem) escape while the setting solution will make them sit down. Works every time in my experience, and gets rid of that -.00001 on the score for this, turning it into a perfect 10.0

Just beautiful and enjoy the reference to other brand BF-109s. So many on the market so it helps to have articles like yours to help us plan and choose our builds wisely. Want to try this Zvezda build!
