iModeler August awards

September 18, 2018 · in News · · 21 · 2K

At the beginning of each month the iModeler editorial team takes a look back to highlight some of the notable contributions to iModeler during the month that ended. Today I'm pleased to announce the results of our August retrospective...

Due to the notable Summer heat across the norther hemisphere, August was likely a bit slow in terms of staying indoors and modeling, but this does not seem to have affected the activity at iModeler very much. Altogehter, 98 new entries were added to the headlines during the period, prompting an impressive 1,678 comments.

The jury panel this month were @editor, @halvarvonflake, @magnusf, @gregax and @andisak.

Every month, all Headline contributions are included in our traditional honorary prize draw. We're looking for the entries that represent the month's highlight in terms of modeling quality and presentation. We also allot an award to a randomly chosen article to emphasize that all contributions to this site deserve recognition.

iModeler Best in Show - August 2018

The jury's Best in Show award goes to Igor Prosen and his 1:48 Eduard SE.5a. Igor impressed us greatly by producing a quarter-scale model that conveys that elusive feeling of being the real thing just shrunken in size. As one of the readers put it, it's "a fascinating lesson in how WW1 biplanes looked" and we couldn't agree more. A model that deserves repeated study, each time revealing something new.

But wait, there is more! – the Random Award

The Random Award is token of appreciation alloted through a random draw among all the contributors of the month. This time, the distinction goes to Travis Paschall and his impressive Star Wars vignette "Yoda’s last pit stop before Dagobah." Travis has been showing us an entire series of Star Wars figures and vignettes which added greatly to our growing Star Wars channel. Thanks Travis!

  1. Congrats to Igor and all the other modelers. All top notch presentations, to say the least.

  2. Superb quality all round. Congratulations to Igor and Travis and to the the other finalists.

  3. Again, I don't know how you guys come up with a "winner" out of all these excellent builds. Congrats to everyone mentioned.

  4. Congrats Igor, well deserved. Well done everyone

  5. Great skills each and all - said it before but it must be getting harder and harder to pick one winner every month. Brilliant work.

  6. Well done, everyone.

  7. Great choice, congrats to all!

  8. Outstanding models & dioramas! Good stuff here.

    Congratulations to ALL y'all winners!

  9. When I first saw that SE5a I thought it was the WNW 1/32 kit. It's very impressive. Loved the Star Wars Yoda vignette. All the others were candidates for awards too, I'd hate being a judge here.

  10. I would never want to have to be a judge - glad there are some of you willing to do so!

By the way, I got to see Travis' Yoda at a show in Kansas City a few weeks ago - live smoke and all! It really makes an impression when the smoke starts-a-flying! And it's always a plus to link up in person with a fellow iModeler. Just makes the world a bit smaller - not quite 1-1 scale!

  11. Igor, you are an inspiration. Congratulations on a well-deserved win.

  12. Congratulations to the winner! Decent work. All participants well done!

  13. I still cannot get over the high quality of modelling, plus presentations, on this forum. If my grandfather saw Igor's and Bricknell's models he would be very impressed, and start off one of his well told WW1 stories of "In my day . . . ".

Secretly, I was hoping for Travis to get the award. It's different and shows lots of imagination, enginuity, and the skills to carry it to a great sci-fi diorama.

As others have mentioned, the quality of the other contenders is both outstanding and inspirational. Thanks fellows.

  14. Congratulations ? to the winners!

  15. Congratulations to all ! This had to be a very hard choice for the judges. They are all excellent examples for choices in the top 10.

    Well done everyone ... 🙂

  16. A big congrats to the winner and all honorable mention winners. Really beautiful all round.

  17. Congratulations to all of you. Excellent modelling in every way.

  18. Congratulations to everyone, hard to pick a winner!

  19. Well done everyone, great to see so much talent here!

  20. Congratulations to all. What a high standard of modeling.
The summer is over, so the box and the glue can be opened.
    Regards, Dirk / The Netherlands.

  21. They all look like winners to me. Great job everyone.
