MiG Anniversary group build

September 30, 2018 · in Aviation · · 45 · 2.3K

8th of December, 2019, will mark 80th anniversary of the establishment of Mikoyan and Gurevich Design Bureau by Artem Mikoyan and Mikhail Gurevich. After the WW2 designs of -1 and MiG-3, with the advent of jet age, the name "MiG" has become a synonym for a bad guy amongst the NATO pilots. Cold War brought classics like MiG-15, MiG-17, MiG-21, MiG-25 and MiG-29 to name just a few. Many of these aircraft were exported and warrant some interesting colourful schemes and markings to the standard Soviet and/or Russian ones.

Group build would last since 1st January until 8th December 2019. Any MiG designed aircraft in any scale and any markings would be eligible.

So, my question to the iModellers is - would you be interested in hoping aboard the MiG "train"?

  1. Hell, I’m in. Don’t think I’ve ever built a jet thing - maybe a few 262’s and an F4 or two as a kid. May do a ‘Movie MiG’ and kill two birds (ha) with one stone if that’s ok with you?

    Thanks Sebastijan.

  2. This is a wonderful Group Build idea! The Mig (all of them collectively) has been a subject of great interest to us military modelers for decades. Honouring them is a great idea. Misters Mikoyan and Gurevich certainly invented machines that were and will continue to be a force to be reckoned with.

    Great work, Sebastijan!

  3. Sebastijan, I’m in. Time to get out of 39-45 for 2019! Something completely new for me. Should be fun. Thanks for setting it up!

  4. I'm in, m8!
    Just started a 21!

  5. Hello! I just joined a few days ago. I am totally in for this GB. It would be as well a great opportunity for me to start posting 🙂

  6. I'm in! Time to add to my Mig fleet.

  7. Since I'm no longer on the "active roster" at the workbench, would previously completed examples be eligible to post or is it strictly a group BUILD...? 🙁

  8. A MIG group? I'm IN of course. Great idea. Let's go.

  9. Well... Eduard´s 1:72 scale MiG-21MF is on my wish list, but I have way too many unbuilt kits… However, I might join, but let me think about that a bit. 🙂

  10. Sebastien, given that you point an almost whole 2019 year I just might jump aboard. I’ve been wanting a reason to get my hands on the much acclaimed Mig 21 from Eduard, in 1/48. Guess this is it. Perhaps a third world country AF, hum?

    • That's one of the main reasons for a long period, that even slow builders, or the ones with priority projects, can still squeeze a build in. I've build a Weekend 21MF in 1:48 and I can attest you're gonna love the build.

  11. Hey, maybe I could do a MiG 28 from Top Gun.

    I know, I know...

  12. I just happen to have a Mig 21PF and a Mig 15 bis in the stash. This might work for me.

  13. Great idea, Sebastijan! The Mig-21 is my favorite jet. I'm in.

  14. Count me in too... I have plans for building a Tamiya 1/48 scale Mig-15 in the very near future...in these Korean War markings

I may even build the rest of the Tamiya Mig's while I'm at it.

and have been thinking of building an early Mig as well.

The Academy Mig 21 has been calling out to me as well...

So yes, count me in... it's a great idea. 🙂

  15. I will toss my hat in with maybe an Iraqi MiG-27 in 48th scale using the old ESCI kit with a lot of help to bring it up to standard. Also eyeing the excellent Great Wall MiG-29 also in Iraqi markings as it appeared in the 1st Gulf War in 91. Looks like a full slate for 2019 is brewing.

  16. Sebastijan, I have a few MiGs in the stash to choose from for this GB !

  17. Sebastijan, Great manufacturer, looks like I will have to get involved!
    Mig 17 I reckon!

  18. hello Sebastijan, good idea for a GB, I'm definately in with a Hungarian AF MiG-21 MF! ...and with a MiG-23MF (or MiG-23UB, let's see what offers the market) and a MiG-19PM (both hungarian also) if everything happens according to plans (as never does 🙂 );

  19. I'm in! Not sure which it'll be yet, but I've got options...

  20. I think that I will join your friendly company. In addition, there is a good reason - I recently received from iModeler lovely set MiG-21MF. I hope you don't mind? ))

  21. Thanks again to everyone for your show of support! It looks like this Group Build is gonna be quite popular and well attended! I will set up a GB group sometime in December.

  22. I may partake in this one as I have a 1:48 MiG 21 in the stash. I may also have a MiG 3 Early as well but I'm 800 kms from my stash at the moment

  23. Waiting for December

  24. Great idea Sebastijan, it will be a new challenge for me so count me in on this GB. I will probably do a MiG 21 foreign user in 1/72 , do some research and will go for it.

I'd be on that one for sure Sebastian. Love the MiG and any reason to build another one shouldn't be missed!

  26. Well I do have a 1/32 mig 29 in the cupboard...

  27. I would like to add to the Mig build, timing suits and next year a local show is featuring the 1/48 Eduard Mig-21's (WE Kits only) as a theme build. As to which eduard Mig-21? Not sure as yet and with all the marking possibilities... stay tuned!
