1:48 Scale, Airfix P-40B, “Tomahawk”

Terrific model, excellent build, and one I would recommend absolutely.

I used Tamiya acrylics, which is something I have not done in over twenty years. I also used Star Fighter Decals, which I am pleased to report, worked flawlessly.

Markings are for a P-40B, assigned to the 55th PS, 35th PG, Hamilton Field, California in December 1941.

  1. that is awesome looking...great build, great finish and great color...beautiful decal selection

  2. Very well done early P-40 state side. Every one of these built so far have been excellent. Another great example here.
Moderate weathering perfect for the California environment of the day. Making a note to self. Need to pick up a couple of Airfix kits this upcoming year. Well done Frederick, thanks for sharing.

  3. Frederick, this build looks spot on. Airfix P-40 seems the best game in town and you brought it to full splendour. Tamiya acrylics are still a great option, all it needs is a proper dilution with Isopropyl and what we get are smooth and evenly coverage painted surfaces. I still used them a lot by airbrush but not brush.
BTW, I missed your Do 17 finished article and just saw it now... it’s a beauty also!

  4. Very nice. I use lots of Tamiya but I'm slowly weaning my way onto Vallejo

  5. Very nice work. I am sure the Airfix kit is better than the 50 some year old revell kit that I built a few times. Your model looks very crisp and clean, you did a fantastic job on it and the painting is perfect.

    • Thank you, John. I think we all have built the old Monogram/Revell kit a slew of times. In spite of it's age though, it was the most accurate P-40B, shape wise, out there. Raised panel lines or not.

  6. Great looking P-40! I love the early P-40s! Yours is done extremely well.

  7. Nice, clean build Frederick...good job.

  8. Very nice early Warhawk. Looks great!

  9. Nice result Freddie! I love the Airfix P-40B/C.

  10. Excellent as usual ! There's just something about a P-40... Please let us know how the Ju-87 goes.

  11. A lovely job Frederick. I've built two of these & enjoyed both. Airfix have really lifted their game; roll on 2019! Your photos are great too, thanks for sharing.
