Long Range Patrol Jeep

October 5, 2018 · in Diorama · · 20 · 2.2K

The father of a very good friend of mine served with the LRDG in North Africa during the 2nd World War. Now I have built quite a number of models for him as he holds a high regard for my skills. I personally think it is more a question of John having sausage fingers, but that is my opinion.

I built this scale SAS , a very old and basic kit to today"s standards , with some minor modifications. I cut off the molded handles on the .50 Browning and replaced them with better handles from my spares box. The kit fuel cans were wrong as they only had two handles instead of three. I added the middle ones from styrene strips. I added straps to the bags and water bottles as well as some metal retaining strips for the fuel cans on the bonnet. I added a frame to the back to hold the fuel cans and the other equipment. I replaced the kit ammo belt with a piece of photo etch ammo belt from the spares box.

I did some washes and applied some dry brushing to finish off. The whole build took about 40 hours.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did building it.

Cheers.
