My son, Jack Richard Robinson II, is one of the last males to carry our family heritage is named after one of my uncles whom I have never met. He was killed on Iwo Jima, February 28, 1945 at the age of 19. To visit there is near the top of my bucket list. A trip that my father wanted to make but was never achieved.
According to stories told at the occasional family reunions with my mother's side of the family, my grandfather's brother was supposedly a Navy Corpsman on Iwo during the campaign. I am planning on doing some research on him to see exactly where he served, and with what units. I met him several times when I was a child. He was a very humble man and I liked him a lot. Sadly like most of this generation, he is now deceased.
Looks like Iwo Jima.

I always say that freedom isn't free...
Nice Iwo Jima series, Rob.
The graveyard image is one of the strongest images of WW2 I’ve seen in a long time
I agree... I don't think I have ever seen that image before.
Thanks Rob for posting this series.
