USS Series NCC-1701D AMT 1:2500 Model built by Dale Jackson - StratoArt.com - https://www.facebook.com/DJacksonHobbies/

I loved this series of 1:2500 ships of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The decals for most were amazing, save for the NCC-1701C which I thought was a royal pain! There are a LOT of decals! and I highly recommend a ton of patience and MicroSol agent.

For this model, the NCC-1701D from Star Trek the Next Generation - I felt that the blue tones on the decals were a little bit too over saturated in the blue spectrum. Looking at the remastered TV series, the paneling is a bit more subdued with also some hues of very light green. However, I proceeded with these and I'm fine with it the way it looks. I'm glad they printed the hundreds of windows on the decal sheets because they didn't do that with the "C" or "E" ships. I'll upload the rest of the series soon.

I still need to paint the phaser bank on the underside of the saucer section. That's pretty tricky as my hand isn't as steady as it once was. I just painted it as best I could with a dark grey acrylic, and then took a toothpick and scraped off the excess.

I accidentally cut into the saucer section while snipping off the parts from the hug ungainly sprue trees. They could have done a better job on that, the sprue trees are huge ! but I realize this is an old set. So what I did was fill in the indention along the saucer and sanded it. I'm okay with that, though it's technically supposed to be a trench there.

Stay tuned for the rest of the Enterprise Series. I highly recommend this series, but you need to have patience for fit issues,

  1. “Tea, Earl Grey, hot” -

Although not a fan of the ‘Aztec scheme’ - this is a lovely example of the ‘D’.

    • Thanks! Well, they did have the pattern on the original studio model, albeit a lot more subdued. It's pretty stark on the 1:2500 model, just needs to be toned down a lot! I suppose I could overspray it with a lightening coat, but that's just extra work on such a tiny model. I'll just leave it as is. 2. It’s certainly not a criticism. I have long been a fan of ‘hard’ sci-fi art and the ‘Aztec scheme’ is really common amongst the genre in terms of ships (as you are possibly aware). I just saw your 1701 original and love it. If you look at my blog you’ll see I’m currently building my adult son one of these for a Christmas gift. He grew up watching me watching Star Trek and now he’s a big TOS fan.

Kudos, Dale; live long, and prosper...

    • Thank you! I sure will! I have more from the 1:2500 scale series to add, and will do so when I get the time. I also have an old (been through many moves) 1:350 scale Klingon Bird of Prey (PL kit) and I'm currently working on the 1:2500 TOS Enterprise, then 1:1000 Refit and I have the Reliant and finally the biggie, the Enterprise Refit from TMP. Lots of Star Trek on my hobby desk right now! 😀

  3. Looks good, Dale. I've been a Star Trek fan since the original series was shown on (IF my memory serves) either Monday or Wednesday evenings. While I was in College, our ancient dormitory's Day Room (@ Dailey Hall; Indiana Central College - now the University of Indianapolis or U-Indy) had the one TV available and we Trekkies (though that name came later) would gather in the Day Room to watch the show.

I don't know how prosperous I am, but I like living long! LoL!

    • sweet! I wasn't old enough to see the original series on TV, I was an 80s child so I definitely got into Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager (and that was about it).

  4. Jeff, be preposterous and live longer...

  5. The ship looks great ! Ok. I admit I saw TOS, first run. ouch I'm old!
