Trumpeter 1/72 Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 – The MiG Killer
It all started one evening when I stopped by a magazine shop at the railway station and bought a magazine about the Korean War. I read about Peter Carmichael's Sea Fury WJ232 and his kill on the jet-powered MiG-15. A couple of weeks later a Fleet Air Arm GB started and my choice of subject was obvious.
I enjoyed this build a lot. The kit wasn't too bad but the decals where a bit dodgy so I decided to paint the UN ident markings.
Tommy, I was led to understand that Carmichael's 'kill' actually belonged to Brian ('Schmoo') Ellis. I'm sure Tom C will be along here to give us the skinny on this one.
Great build, looks the dog's...whiskers.
'liked'
You already did it for me. But that's not the most widely-known information, though Jennings Heilig has already figured out the plane Ellis was flying and it's on the new Fundekals sheet for the Sea Fury.
This is really interesting!
Maybe I need build Brian Ellis aircraft too then 🙂
Looks outstanding!
Nice Sea Fury. Some more information on the MiG "kill" controversy.

Wow, great looking model plane Tommy! I love the Sea Fury and the "MiG killer" story. Here's my take on that bird:
I recognise those photos, I think I have seen them on Scalemates!
I remember them because the background with the hangar made it look like the real thing - great job!
Beautifully done!
Excellent build and presentation, Tommy...nice work.
Tommy,
I am blessed with the real thing just down the road. But, they replaced the motor with a Wright 3350 and a Sky Raider prop. It spends its time at Reno...your kit does a fine job of representing the Hawker line. One of the ultimate piston fighters of our time and its neat to read the Mig-15 kill story.
Two thumbs up
Tommy, Really nice looking Sea Fury. I really enjoy checking out nice models and this is very nice !
Very nice looking model Tommy.
An excellent Sea Fury! I built two of the old Novo kits before the Trumpeter version came out, so probably won't get around to another, but this is a vastly superior kit.
Thanks for the kind words, guys! I really appreciate it 🙂
Hello Tommy,
Beautiful model. Famous model in the FAA inventory.
I had to read it two times, but yes it is 1/72 scale.
Regards, Dirk / The Netherlands.
Thank you, Dirk 🙂
