Meteor Prototype DG202

December 13, 2018 · in Aviation · · 21 · 2.4K

This is the 1/48th scale F.1. I made this when it was first released 18 years ago (1997). It came in for a lot of criticism at the time because it had air brakes, and the Meteor F.1 had none. It transpired that Tamiya had based their kit on the Meteor F.1 at the RAF Museum Cosford. This Meteor had had its wing replaced after an engine malfunction with a wing that did have air brakes. Tamiya corrected the wing, and re- released the kit with the correct F.1 wing. This model is based on the Meteor at Cosford. I also made a mistake on my model (there's more than one I'm sure). But this particular one, I didn't notice until I had put the decals on. It was too late to change then. No prizes for anyone who can see it.

  1. I'm glad I'm ignorant enough to say it looks like a Meteor prototype to me. 🙂

  2. Looks great - swapped paint scheme or not! I would never know...

  3. Outstanding build & the camo paint is great, too. Like Tom said, 99.999% of us would never know.

  4. Great build from the beginning of jet history.

  5. This is a plane that definitely needed to be represented in the 100 Years of the RAF postings. Yours looks fantastic too. Like the others have stated, had you not mentioned the problem with the color reversal, I would not have known.

    Well done my friend !

    "liked" 🙂

  6. Nice work, Julian! It looks great.

  7. Looks great Julian - I find I always end up painting some part of an RAF scheme in reverse!
    Great choice of aircraft too!
