Here are a few shots of the engines. This is a great kit with lots of detail and perfect fit. I'm probably weathering and distressing these a bit more than they should be, but I think I'll finish this kit as a well-worn, well used "1946" version. I painted these with Paints and weathered them with various Mig products and pastels.

  1. I always assumed she had a radial engine, possibly a BMW 801, due to the cowling shape of the ‘Arrow’. Ha, you live, you learn.

It does seem maybe over weathered, but to be honest, if I had the skill - that’s exactly how I’d do it.

  2. Thanks, david. Another reason I over-did the engine was a bit more tongue in cheek. My wife's Mercedes started leaking oil from some blown gaskets after 42K miles so it's a bit of an inside joke since the 335 used DB 603 engines.

  3. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
George … that work on the engine alone caught my attention, I can only imagine the final work not only on it but in the whole model. From my point of view, you in no way have weathered or distressed the engine at all … if any … you have added more to watch in it. And in case these are factors that will not be seen … all is not lost, in some way … think of it as a skill practice and experience builder.
I look forward to the final work.

    • Glad you like it. I like adding depth to my models because all those little details add up to a more interesting experience for the viewer. It's like adding layers of flavor to a dish.

  4. This looks great to me !

Here's a picture of one in storage at Kermit Weeks' Fantasy of Flight Museum that I took about 7 years ago. Unfortunately I don't remember if this is a DB 603 or a 605...

He has rows upon rows of various aircraft engines in storage.

    Hope this helps...

  5. This thing needs some serious cleaning and a couple of new gaskets.
And Mr. Johnson, this is a modelling site, how dare you to share real world pictures here?

  6. An excellent start to what I know will be a stellar final result!

  7. Nice work mate! I was just saying to Johannes, I'm glad that engines are getting their own articles! Mini works of art amongst us petrol heads!

  8. Now I´ll follow this... and i´ll try to replicate averything i can in an old 1/72 lindberg DO-335

  9. Thanks, Roberto. I like building and weathering engines the most.
