1/35 AFV Club Centurion 5/1

January 22, 2019 · in Armor · · 7 · 1.8K

I completed this in April 2015. It was my second ever armour build. The kit is the 5/1 and is completed to represent one used by the RAAC in Vietnam.

Paints used were a Vallejo dark green mixed to the approx correct colour as seen on photographs.

The weathering was done using pastel crayons ground to a mixed powder, and then to a paste using white spirits. This was put on the model using a stiff paint brush and rubbed with my finger tip to get it to spread. Some of the pastel crayon was just dry rubbed onto the exhaust silencers.

It was then cover in Kleer and the decals installed. Once these were on a matt coat was done using Humbrol Acrylic Matt Clear Coat in a spray can.

The idea and method of doing the weathering came from an article on the web.

Total time to build was approx 2 months and then another 3 months before weathering.

  1. Great work Phillip!
Did you use the kit tracks or did you use aftermarket?
I'm building one at the moment!

    • David I used the kit tracks and road wheels. The track joins can just be made out. It is above the 4th idler wheel on one side and between the 3rd & 4th idler wheels on the other side.

      • Nice work and I know it's not the same topic or subject but I plan on buying trumpeter 1/200 scale bismarck but scratch building it into a rc kit with the funnel being able to have smoke coming out of it and the main turrets able to fire blanks. But awesome work on this scale and kit

  2. Very nice Centurion, I plan to build a Shot'Kal version of the IDF soon! Welcome to imodeler!

  3. Great looking Centurion!

  4. How interesting! A Centurion without the side skirts!
