Review: Excited about these exhausts

January 30, 2019 · in Reviews · · 6 · 2.2K

The postman has been kind enough to leave a small box on my doorstep!

I have been waiting for some time for these to become available, and the other day I got a mail that they had arrived in my kit-pushers store.
I immediately phoned a fellow 109aholic to tell him they had arrived, and he said "I want one" - got on the net, and sadly the preferred items were sold out! I had to order some for other planes just to have a look at them.

They are extremely well made, to the best of my opinion the colour looks right (at least it resembles the real ones on the old Pipers and Cessnas i go flyabout in)

Well - I have not been working on them yet, but just wanted to give a heads-up to you guys that they are here. With my lack of patience they may be on a build soon, but no promises here.

The pictures are taken with a Olympus TG4 pocket camera in micro-mode, and that is getting in really close! (great camera for pictures of modelling too) - the grid is one mm squares, and the scale is .

Really looking forward to getting them in a model, but I think I have to work a bit on my patience AND airbrush first to justify such little gems being included in a build.

Manufacturer; REXx, Ukraine
Bf-109E version; #48024 (£7.99)
version; #48025 (£6.99)
Bought mine at hannats.co.uk, but they may also be available from Uschi van der Rosten (https://www.uschivdr.com/shopping-categories/shop-rexx-exhausts/) or H&B Hobbies (https://www.hbhobbies.com/collections/rexx-exhausts) ($8.80 for the 109) - a search on the words "rexx exhausts 1/48" came up with many more retailers around the globe, so check your preferred dealer and see if they have some available - they make them in 4 scales for planes, tanks etc.

  1. Are they made in a similar way as the defunct brand Mosquito?

    • I don't know about Mosquito, but these ones are done with electrotyping (or galvanoplasty - to me, it sounds more familiar). I was using Rexx exhausts for ICM He-60 - they looks really good on a model.

      • I believe that was the manufacturing process of Moskit (not Mosquito as I wrote earlier) exhausts. Read somewhere that brand ceased operations after their location literally blew up in pieces due to the perils of that process. Still have one set in the stash

  2. Are these metal or plastic, or ... ?

  3. Just added some more details to the article.
