Hasegawa F-22 Egg Plane

January 2, 2019 · in Aviation · · 5 · 2.7K

Egg Plane. I built this little gem for my five year old grandson, Reader. He's getting ready to welcome a new little brother into the world and I didn't want him to feel left out in the hustle and bustle of all the excitement. This kit was something different from the ones I've done in the past but was really fun to do. It went together easily in a very straight forward manner. I would recommend these kits as a way to get kids interested in the hobby of building models. I used Vallejo Air paints throughout. Next was an oil pin wash to bring out details followed by satin varnish to seal everything. I used the kit markings and “AK” code letters for the 302 Fighter Squadron based at Elmendorf AFB, AK because both my sons were born in Alaska while I was stationed at Eielson AFB, AK flying A-10's. If Reader is anything like me as a kid, I figure the landing gear will last about ten minutes, the canopy about an hour…and the rest is just a guess.

  1. Hi, Tom. Hasegawa are getting worse with their accuracy issues. That Boundary Layer Diverter shape is all wrong to scale.

That said, great work. If I had a grandad do this for me, I’d be one happy and loved kid.

  2. Nice!, sounds like a perfect way to get kids interested in the hobby.

  3. That's a really nice thing to do for your Grandson Reader. As Robert said, it's a great way to get him hooked ... I mean interested - in modeling!

  4. Great way to get the young ones involved Tom. Funny, every time I look at that F-22, it reminds me of a toad.

    • Tom, funny you should say that...my wife said it reminded her of a toad too. I think it is the shape. color, and the "RAM" zig-zags on the dorsal side.
