On This Day…January 7th

Almost a year before the infamous attack on Pearl, this is an aerial view of Ford Island, Hawaii, 7 Jan 1941. Pearl Harbor Naval Operating Base is seen in the foreground and the carrier USS Lexington (CV-2) on the farthest side of Ford Island.

The 7th January was the day that the first Supermarine Seafire flew in 1942. These first Seafires were essentially heavily modified Spitfire Vb's but the marque quickly took on a whole new identity and evolution.

Ad in the 'Aeroplane' journal January 7th, 1944.
