Takom 1/35 AML-90

January 24, 2019 · in Armor · · 6 · 3.6K

WIP: I am busy at present converting the kit into the South African Eland - 90 Mk5 which was based on the AML-90. Photos show some of the required mods including one of the actual vehicle as used in Rhodesia in the 1970's. One of the mods not in any photo is the aftermarket tyres with the correct tread as used by the SADF on the Elands. The wheels were obtained from Mirror Models Ltd

  3. An interesting looking vehicle.

  4. I have now completed the Eland 90 Mk5 in the camo when it was used by the RhACR in the 1970's.

  5. Great model of a super interestibg subject.
You have clearly shown the changes necessary to transgorm the Takom kit.
Were there other versions of the Eland?

    • The SADF and Rhodesian Air Force Armoured car section both used the AML60 as well. This was known as the Eland 60.

Both the Eland 60 & Eland 90 were slighlty longer when compared to the standard AML 60 & AML 90 as the South Africans are taller than the French.

The Eland 60 had the same engine bay as supplied in the TAKOM kit.

Also for both models I would advise getting the after market wheels and tyres. Pic of the type I used attached:

Here are photos of my Rhodesian Air Force Armoured car section Eland 60:

The Eland 90 Mk 7 also had a totally different engine area when its final model was built as well as a kit pannier on the rear of the turret. Photos of this attached as well.

The Rhodesians used the Eland 90 Mk 5.
