This is my first model in recent years (haven't really built in 30 years). It is the Bf 109E-3 as flown by Adolf Galland in August 1940 in III.JG26 in France. It is more or less OOB, with only some scraping of some of the openings, especially the top of the cowling. It is painted by brush, with a spray of matt from a can on top of what I recall to be Valejo acrylics. Be warned that I am a 109aholic, and so further models by me are likely to be 109's or something related to these.

  1. Well...you certainly haven't lost your touch in 30 years - looks good. Welcome to the site.

  2. Hello Erik, Very nicely done model. I am going to build one of BF-109G from Eduard, but first I need to finish my Japanese aircraft project (D4-Y2 Judy). It is nice to see somebody like me which come back into the hobby (I had over 15 years break). Best regards Łukasz

  3. Hello Erik,

    I've also been on a 30 years 'vacation' 🙂 and return with a 109 ( https://imodeler.com/2018/10/revell-1-32-bf-109-g6/ ).
The 109 is a beautiful plane, only second to the Spitfire (sorry).
Wellcome, back to the hobby, and wellcome to this comunity.
Keep modeling, try some new ways of painting and, most important, have fun!

    cheers,
    Manuel

  4. Welcome back to a hobby that's difficult to turn your back on once you rediscover how improved the options have become during your 30-year vacation. As a fellow fan of Willy M's 109s, I think your model of one of Galland's early a/c looks great. Perhaps have a look at the current Airfix kit. I've just finished one and was pleasantly surprised by its quality after building a number of Tamiya Emils Paul

  5. Glad to have you back into the fraternity! I'm also a brush painter (though I just got set up to try my hand at airbrushing...), so I appreciate the lovely job you did with the "old school" techniques! Well done - my favorite version of the 109. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

  6. Yes, welcome back to our hobby, Erik. You have matched the colours so good!

  7. Lovely Emil, Eric. I love seeing models under natural daylight. Looks fantastic.

    ‘liked’

  8. Thank you all for the kind words! - I must admit that more models have been finished since this one, and a few extras added to the Emil. The reason for my first model being a 109 is that I have the fantastic luck to have a girlfriend that likes 109's, so the subject of the build was really easy. After the picture was taken I have added a pilot (scratchbuilt) and an antennawire - made from a strand of my girlfriends hair, no less. I will try to get a fresh picture taken one day when the sun comes out!

  9. Nice work on this, Erik. A man can't have too many 109s, even if he isn't a 109nut. 🙂

  10. i love it...love the emil...really caught my eye

  11. Beautiful work, Erik. Welcome to the site.

  12. Welcome to iModeler,Erik. That’s a great start to your ‘come back’. Looking forward to the next one!
