1/24 VW Bus

February 5, 2019 · in Automotive · · 14 · 2.3K

Hi All, Here's my first 2019 post. I recently completed this Bus as a birthday present for my wife. In +/- 50 years of modeling this is my first non military vehicle I've modeled, so it's a bit rough around the edges, so please don't look too close. It's built out the box but I did add some personal decals on the back of the bus. I hope you like it.

  1. Nice build and presentation...I like the map thing you created. 🙂

  2. great looking model

  3. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
Nice build of the VW BUS as well as the display base, it really says a lot with no words.

  4. The original "gutless wonder" in all its glory. You could have convinced me these were photos of the real thing.

  5. Looks good to me Gary. Had an Army buddy that one of these, acceleration and handling in corners wasn't one of it's attributes. I like it.

  6. Hello Gary,
Wouldn't it be nice to have one.
    Great job. Regards, Dirk

  7. A cool VW bus, far out!

  8. WHEW! My wife likes it and great comments from my fellow iModerler's. Win, Win... Thanks All !

  9. Like it! When I was in high school our family had an orange version (a bit newer model than this one I believe). Fond memories of driving that "orange pumpkin" around. Just the thing to temper the testosterone of a young driver!

  10. Great model, Gary. Isn’t it funny that a product that has its origins in German fascism has become the icon of the love and peace generation?

  11. Great VW bus, Gary!

I toured all over Western Europe in a 1967 VW bus during the summer of 1967 and again in 1968. I'll never forget the sound those engine mice made when you put the accelerator pedal down to the floor! (It seemed like mice, anyway - going round & round, in their little wheels making the thing go!)

It WAS very dependable and pretty easy on gas, as I recall - especially since our 2 tour busses had 2 adults and 6 teen-agers in each vehicle. (It was a school-sponsored tour.) They max'ed out doing about 110-115 KPH, but it got us all over France, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, and Germany. (Then it was West Germany, obviously)

  12. Sweet build!
    Nicely executed!
I'm doing a similar build, but I have opted for a "sleepah", powered by an Audi R8 power plant.
I have attached a pic or 2 of my WIP.

  13. Hey Gavin, Thanks for the comment. Looks like an interesting build, can't wait to see the end result. As stated in my write up, except for the personal decals I created, it's an out of the box build. It was fun but it may be a while before I do another civilian vehicle...not really my "thing". Good luck.
