Tamiya new tool 1:48 Spitfire Mk.Ia

February 9, 2019 · in Aviation · · 22 · 4.5K

one of the best kits i've ever built, of my all time favorite aircraft. Ingenious engineering, flawless fit and detail throughout.

I've modeled it as X4330, QJ*G, 0f no.616 Squadron (South Yorkshire), September 1940, thought to have been flown by P/O J E Johnson.

all roundels and codes are masked and painted. Data is from BarracudaCal decals. Paints are Mr. Color and Mission Models (Dark Earth and Dark Green). Paper masks were used for the upper camouflage demarcations. Added details include HGW cloth sutton harness , QuickBoost cockpit entry door (with crowbar brackets removed) and gun sight, added wiring in the cockpit and for the main gear legs. aerials are Uschi fine elastic thread.

  1. Roger, I could complement you on all your nice work here, but its a lot easier to simply sum this up by saying, "This is Beautiful"!, Very well done !

  2. WoW! That's a beautiful Spitfire, Roger. Fantastic detailing and finishing, Sir. Simply outstanding!

  3. Another Fantastic Fabrocini. Looks great.

  4. Yep...what they said! 🙂

  5. Sets an intimidating standard for someone about to start building one. Glad to hear the kit is all I expect it to be. Amazing job.

  6. magnificent as always

  7. Roger...Well done!

  8. Marvelous work. Everything is spot on. You’re a hard act to follow

  9. Roger your one of the most under rated modelers on the board. Strong work with subtle paint work and some really great weathering that looks natural. I noticed that you didn't bother slapping on a coat of oxide brown on the exhausts. The standard fair for most ...some great work there I could go on but, there are too many good points. It would get boring. 🙂 This Spit is a strong candidate for "Model of the Month" and its about time you be recognized for your gifts and talents. Your style lends it's self to school of though of not over doing it. Goldilocks builds. You have my vote.

    Three thumbs up.

    • Thank you for the kind words Stephen. Your and our fellow modeler’s Respect means the most to me. You are too generous in your assessment of my work, but know I appreciate every word

  10. Beautiful! Love the weathering and details. A real work of art.

  11. Stunning Roger! The difference from it's 'older brother' is really plain to see, superb job!

  12. Beautiful model of a beautiful aircraft. Congratulation on the award!

  13. Wonderful in every way. The subtlety of the work really is it’s strongest point; I’ve never seen a stronger, more confident Spitfire that allows its shape, form, and colour speak for itself. None of it says, “look at me” - yet you can’t stop looking at her.

    This is art.

  14. Somehow I've missed this post on my favorite ever plane... But life is just what it is, and you've won the “Model of the Month” 🙂
    Congratulations on this AWESOME build

  15. I have this model in my stash and I am looking forward to getting started on it. I think I will be using your photos as a reference point as it is a fantastic piece of work, nothing like setting the bar high Roger!

  16. I know you posted this awhile ago...I'm going through your portfolio. This is a beautiful Spit! I'm prepping to embark on this model myself soon. Your build is exemplary indeed!
