Airfix Sea Fury FB.11
Well done Airfix! Having read all the reports about this kit, I thought I would pre-empt any problems by getting in a few resin after market bits & pieces in advance. In the event I hardly used any. In the cockpit I chose the resin side walls but not the entire tub, seat & instrument panel. I did use the resin gunsight however & Eduard seat belts too; but that's all. Airfix pay attention to reports & have included an entire extra corrected fuselage sprue to overcome the slight imperfection in the fin. Cowling fit was not an issue & the kit exhausts were already opened up, so no problems there. Overall fit was excellent, but I did have to do a fair bit of sanding to align the fit at the wing folds: probably my fault (I'll do them differently on the next one). I used the decals from the kit & found them excellent , if a little reluctant to settle down to begin with. Paints were Tamiya & Model Master acrylics with a home brew satin to finish. Weathering is minimal; just a touch around the exhausts & wing roots. The kit provides plenty of under wing stores but I tend to prefer a lean, clean look so I just settled for drop tanks this time round.

Thanks Marvin. Lots of articles on the web for the Sea Fury & in the event she was easier to build than I anticipated. The cockpit opening is so small you can't see anything & what's more, it's all black: there's a saving straight away! In retrospect, the only items I should have used were a air of resin wheels. Maybe next time?

Thank you John. I gave the cowling ring a few swipes with a sanding stick; also the rear portion. Seemed to do the job OK. I did rescribe the cowling catches etc. as my references indicated they should be a little higher up. Used evergreen strip; seemed to do the job.

Thanks Robert. I was torn between the earlier version with the lower demarcation t the DSG & this one, but I've already done the Trumpeter kit like that so the later style won.
